Who were the Club Kids?

The Club Kids were a group of young people in New York city in the 80's and early 90's who had bold personalities, a lot to express and a passion for parties, socialising and a love for all things decadent. They became infamous for their excessive drug use (cocaine, ketamine, ecstasy and heroin were popular choices), and outrageous outfits. They wanted to be noticed, and they had big statements to make through their bold choices in fashion, hair and makeup.

The Club Kids were led by Michael Alig and James St James. Michael Alig was a small town outcast who moved to New York city to study, but soon dropped it to become a well known party personality on the New York party scene. He befriended James St James, who was already well known on the scene thanks to his connections to people already on the scene.

Together, Michael Alig and James St James had a dream for the Club Kids to be a group where any one from any walk of life; no matter the sex, sexuality, race or background; could express exactly who they wanted to be. Anyone could be a legend and everyone was a star in their own right.
