Party Monster

Party Monster is a 2003 film based on the Club Kids, a group of hard core party centered personalities led by Michael Alig and James St James in New York in the 1980's, known for their wild parties and excessive drug use. The film is based on the book Disco Bloodbath, a tell all book by James St James about the events that surrounded Club Kids and party promoter Michael Alig in the 1980's, and the events that led to him murdering and dismembering fellow Club Kid Angel Melendez.

The film is a great insight into the life of the Club Kids, and although it is a Hollywood dramatisation, you can really imagine what life would have been like as a Club Kid. Their lives were absolutely filled with excess and "divine decadence". There was an unlimited supply of drugs, alcohol, sex, music and non stop parties. Their lives were centered around parties and living life to whatever whim they fancied at the moment. It is easy to compare the life of a Club Kid to the life of a Weimar Berliner. Nothing was too much or too far. Anything was accepted and there was total freedom of expression.
