Party Monster vs Cabaret

I have decided to compare the central characters from both Cabaret and Party Monster; Sally Bowles and Michael Alig. Both young and naïve, both fame hungry.

Sally Bowles moves to Weimar Berlin from her middle-class seemingly boring (in her eyes) life in England in pursuit of fame and fabulousness. She wants to be a famous actress, and although she is extremely money driven, she is even more fame driven. She wants to be recognised and wants to be someone. Sally goes to great lengths to achieve this, from putting on unforgettable performances at the Kit Kat Club, to entertaining anyone and everyone who claims they have any sort of link to Hollywood and the life she wants.

"Money" from Cabaret is a song that really depicts Sally's lust for fame and money, from the song lyrics to her exotic looking, eye catching, glitzy outfit.

Michael Alig is a small town outcast from the mid-west of America. He moves to New York to go to university, and is quickly swept away by the calls of "money, success, fame glamour".  He meets James St James, who becomes his mentor on how to be "fabulous" and he makes it his goal to just be known as "fabulous", dressing in outrageous, attention seeking outfits.

Michael sings a song called "Money, Success, Fame, Glamour" in Party Monster, which captures everything he wants perfectly, and is the perfect comparison to Sally's "Money" song from Cabaret.
